Camino Self-Directed Education

Camino SDE is an educational space where we can put into practice another view of childhood, the education we want to give and receive, and where we can shape another way of living. It is a commitment.

The people who make up this place believe in the importance of caring for children and the value of prevention as a primary factor for greater well-being and personal development in all its spheres.

In the mornings it is an international school and during the afternoons and weekends it is a multidisciplinary space with activities and workshops related to the project where we can continue learning and enjoying ourselves, open to all the public, both young and old in general.

Families have a fundamental role in Camino. We are the basis of the project, the axis of care for the children and, therefore, we have the place we deserve to continue developing and enjoying our bond as a living and autonomous system. Therefore, the space is open to families at any time, with a family area, with more social actions and networking with other groups in the area.

From the windows of the space we can see the Regional Park of the Southeast and its lagoons, and from the entrance door it is only 6 meters walking to reach it. We want to breathe the Vega and learn from it. And take care of it. Therefore, our intention is to weave relationships and commitments with the organic gardens and animal farms that make it up, in addition to the regular collaboration of associative organizations that promote participation and care of our most natural and living environment. This will be an important basis of our daily education to work transversally on educational proposals.

And recover the streets, the town, to walk to the municipal library, to get to know the shops of the town, its people, trades or associations.

And find our way. Our camino.

Education

We share the vision that education is the sum of everything a person learns and supports them in living a satisfying and meaningful life. And since each person has their own "life journey," what we can understand as a "satisfying and meaningful life" becomes a unique and genuine experience. Therefore, when learning is based on our own choices in experiences and activities, beyond whether we consider the proposals more or less formal, the personal experience becomes legitimate and rich. Self-directed education is based on all of this.

In addition to active pedagogies, we are inspired by other currents such as free schools, Sudbury, Summerhill or Rebeca Wild, which accompany the essential rhythms of childhood (sleep, food, affection, security, movement and free choice and play). Or like our beloved Escuela Libre Wayra in Juzbado (Salamanca) and other self-managed groups from others countries.

When we work from prevention we are contributing to a healthier neurological, emotional and personal development in each person. This, we firmly believe, will have a positive impact on our closest environment and leave a healthier mark on many levels in our society. We are inspired and nourished by currents of perinatal psychology, Gestalt and systemic psychotherapy, trauma and addictions, all within a social framework. All adults who actively participate in the project are committed to being under constant pedagogical and therapeutic supervision.

It is about taking care of our personal essence within a group that is as healthy as possible and, to do so, the limits of care must be well defined and clear.

Social

The impact of our education will also have an impact on our society.

At Camino SDE we have a strong commitment to act in the processes that accompany parenting, motherhood and fatherhood with emotional and socio-laboral support programs, on a regular basis both for the families of the group and for those closest to us.

We have the following social actions:

We support the baby-mother dyad from a perinatal perspective and promote care pedagogy by opening the space free of charge to first-time mothers with children under 3 years of age in their care. Places will be limited each year.
We will collaborate with local organic gardens and contribute to consumer groups as a way of collaboration.
Free activities for maternity and adolescent care.
Working with associations in the town and surrounding areas.
Support actions of other similar state associations.

We also draw on the network of international movements with a similar vision, such as "The Alliance for Self-Directed Education" in the USA and other groups closer to home in the UK or Portugal.

Camino SDE supports the research and dissemination of scientific studies, associations, NGOs or platforms that promote the rights of children to live with more satisfaction and dignity in any of their vital needs, in Spain and internationally.

Workshops

In the afternoon and on weekends there will be workshops for all ages in English, music, instruments, voice, circus, dance and much more that we are working on.
